Dr. Margaret (Peggy) Bloom, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Programs and Teaching and Professor of Counseling Psychology has been granted charter fellow status by the American Educational Research Association.

The program aims to “honor education researchers with substantial research accomplishments” and “ recognize AERA members who have made exceptional scientific or scholarly contributions to education research or significant contributions to the field through the development of research opportunities and settings.”

“I’m very honored to have my research and professional service to national education associations recognized by AERA,” said Bloom. “It is particularly meaningful to be a charter fellow along with other individuals whose work I have respected and admired such as Dr. Lee Shulman and Dr. David Berliner.”

The initial group of Fellows was announced in the August-September issue of the Educational Researcher.  Bloom and her fellow honorees will be inducted at the 2009 AERA annual meeting, April 13 to 17 in San Diego, California.

Commenting on the special recognition, Dean Bill Henk noted, “Because AERA is the premier professional organization for the field of Education, Dr. Bloom’s selection as an Inaugural Fellow is an extraordinarily high honor.  It is a richly deserved distinction that gives further testimony to an outstanding research career. ”

AERA was founded in 1916 with the goal of bettering national education through recognizing and encouraging educational research. The organization consists of about 26,000 members from all fields and levels of education.
