The College of Education congratulates both Dr. Sarah Knox and the entire Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology for their rankings in a recent study examining the impact of scholarly work.
At the August meeting of the American Psychological Association in Boston, five scholars (R. D. Goodyear, T. J. G. Tracey, J. W. Lichtenberg, C. D. Claiborn, and B. E. Wampold) used a metric known as the h-index to measure the scholarly and professional impact of counseling psychologists and counseling psychology programs. The index considers not only the number of publications, but also how often those publications were cited in professional journals.
In their presentation entitled "Measuring scholarly impact of people and programs in counseling psychology," they cited rankings for APA-accredited counseling psychology doctoral programs. Marquette University's Counseling and Educational Psychology department's ranking tied them for 31st, placing them among other top-tier Counseling Psychology programs in the country. The study also showed that, among the 499 tenured or tenure-track faculty in APA-accredited counseling psychology doctoral programs with greater than 5 years since degree, Dr. Knox, Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology, ranked fourth.
