COED Mourns Loss of Dr. Austin Lewis

The College of Education mourns the loss of Dr. Austin Lewis, colleague and friend, who passed away peacefully on June 30th of complications from lung cancer. Survivors include Sue Lamb, brother David Lewis and sister Jeannie Jessup and her husband.

Dr. Lewis, professor of Philosophy, taught EDUC 158, Philosophy of Education, to education students for almost ten years. He was, among other things, a brilliant teacher and was well loved by students and colleagues alike. In his spare time, he enjoyed swing dancing (see this photo featured in JSOnline). Dr. Lewis was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2008.
