Kaldhusdal has been a fourth-grade teacher in the Kettle Moraine School District since 1999 and has been an educator since 1991. He earned a journalism degree from California State Polytechnic University of San Luis Obispo, and a teaching certificate from Chapman College in California. He earned a master’s degree in technology in education from Lesley College in Cambridge, Mass. Using technology, Kaldhusdal helps his students interact with other diverse student groups. His class participates in a weekly online math forum with undergraduate students and professors at Drexel University and they also participate in an e-mail based book discussion with a classroom right here in Milwaukee.
“I believe the most important skill I can teach my students is how to think,” Kaldhusdal said in his nomination materials. He models respect for all students and develops lessons that help them learn from each other and link the classroom with the community. “The key to solving problems of the future will depend on this generation’s ability to work in partnership to find solutions,” he said.
