Celebrating Engineering Hall; guests gather in the tent south of the building to celebrate this historic event.

Celebrating Engineering Hall

Several hundred alumni, faculty, students and friends of the college gathered on October 7 to celebrate the opening of Engineering Hall and to see our amazing new home.

Visitors toured the first two floors of the 135,000-square-foot building and were able to experience state-of-the-art laboratories, innovative classrooms and equipment demonstrations.  We were also able to thank the more than 3200 individual donors who are making Engineering Hall possible.  We invite you to view a short video of the celebration.

A 135,000-square-foot, $50 million second phase addition to Engineering Hall is already designed and fundraising is underway.

Lafferty Chair in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

V. Clayton and Beverly Lafferty, 1950 graduates of the university’s College of Engineering and College of Arts and Sciences, respectively, donated $5 million to the College of Engineering to establish an endowed chair in electrical engineering. Opus Dean of Engineering Robert Bishop said the search for the new chair will focus on “a scholar and educator with an international reputation” and expertise in smart sensor systems.

The couple’s generosity extends to all aspects of the college’s transformation, including endowing the Lafferty Professorship in Engineering and the Elizabeth and Ray Lafferty Scholarship Fund, named in honor of Clay Lafferty’s parents. They also contributed to the building fund for the college’s new Engineering Hall.  The Micro Sensors Research Laboratory in Engineering Hall will be named in honor of the Laffertys.  Learn more.
