Research experience for undergraduates

Biomedical engineers interested in summer research programs should visit the National Science Foundation for more information about REU programs and a list of current REU programs and their host institutions.

The National Science Foundation funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program. An REU Site comprises a group of 10 or so undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution.

Marquette's Department of Biomedical Engineering, with the support of a grant from the National Science Foundation, provided a summer research program from 2005-07. The department selected undergraduates in biomedical engineering to participate in innovative and interdisciplinary biomedical research aimed at improving the quality of life of individuals with neurological dysfunction or disease. The focus of the nine-week summer project was imaging, modeling and rehabilitation of neurosystems, drawing on faculty strengths at Marquette and the Medical College of Wisconsin.
