Dr. Drakopoulos, commonly called "Dr. D," has taught transportation engineering classes at Marquette for the past 20 years.
In 2012 he was given the Outstanding Teacher of the Year award from the College of Engineering. He was nominated for this award for excellence in teaching by a faculty member and received the highest number of votes within the senior-standing students.
The Transportation Research Board of the National Academies has awarded Dr. D with the Best TRB Freeway Operations Paper in 2013 titled "Impact of Heavy Vehicles on Freeway Operating Characteristics Under Congested Conditions" co-authored with Dr. ManWo Ng and Umama Ahmed from Old Dominion University. The annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies is the largest transportation conference in the world and attracts more than 11,000 attendees and exceeded 4,700 paper submissions from all over the globe.
Dr. Drakopoulos received his second Outstanding Teacher Award in the past three years, for the 2014 academic year. The outstanding teacher award is voted on by the senior graduating class. He will be honored at the COE Honors Convocation on Friday, April 25, 2014. Congratulations Dr. D!
