Outreach Programs for Pre-College Students
The Marquette University Opus College of Engineering Outreach Program offers a wide variety of interesting and challenging programs for students in late middle and high school, including Girls Who Code and the Summer Residential Academies. In 2017, participants in the summer programs benefitted from the financial support of Johnson Controls, Pentair and several individual sponsors, and by learning real-world engineering skills through activities sponsored by HUSCO International's Be BOLD initiative, and Findorff.
FIRST Robotics and Robot ABC's
FIRST Robotics is a national engineering contest that encourages engineering, science, and technology and promotes “gracious professionalism.” FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand", hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform a prescribed task. Its as close to "real world engineering" as a student can get.
Through generous partnership with Johnson Controls, Marquette's Opus College of Engineering offers Robot ABC's, which provides logistical and financial support to new FIRST Lego League teams in the Milwaukee area. - the first step in getting students involved in the FIRST Robotics competition.
