Transfer Students

Am I a transfer applicant? Transfer applicants are those who seek to enroll as either full-time or part-time undergraduate students at Marquette University and have attended a college/university after graduating from high school or earning a high school equivalency diploma. There is not a minimum number of credit hours that need to be earned to be considered a transfer student, however, if a student has earned less than 12 college credits, an ACT and/or SAT test score is required as part of the application process.

Transfer students apply for direct admission* into one of Marquette University’s undergraduate colleges. For more information on our undergraduate colleges and majors, visit the majors and minors page.

*Please note, transfer applications to the College of Nursing's traditional BSN program are no longer accepted as enrollment in this college is at capacity. The RN-BSN degree completion program has been phased out and is no longer accepting applications from students.

APPLICATION REVIEW TIMELINE AND DEADLINES:

• January (Spring) Semester: Applications for the Spring semester will begin in early September. The deadline for a completed transfer application for spring consideration is December 1. Application review is conducted on a rolling basis and admission is granted as space permits. All required application materials must be postmarked to the Marquette University Admissions Office by December 1 for spring admission review. Transfer applications completed after December 1 will not be considered.

• August (Fall) Semester: Applications for the Fall semester will begin in mid-January so that completed fall coursework can be included in the admissions review. Application review is conducted on a rolling basis and admission is granted as space permits. All required materials must be postmarked to the Admissions Office by June 1 for priority consideration. Applications received after June 1 will be reviewed as space permits.

• High School transcript: required of all transfer applicants, regardless of the number of college credits you have earned

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

Transfer admission decisions are made collaboratively, between the Undergraduate Admission Office and the academic dean of the college to which the student is applying. Transfer students demonstrating over one academic year of college work will have their admission decisions based primarily on the types of courses, earned grades and academic trend in college work. Students showing less than one full academic year of college work will be reviewed on a combination of high school and college performance. Successful transfer applicants typically present above a 2.5/4.0 college gpa in a well-round academic curriculum (eg. English, mathematics, science, social sciences, humanities) for admission consideration. Decisions are based upon a comprehensive review of academic performance and for some academic programs, performance in certain subject areas (math, science) may have greater emphasis in the review process.

WHAT'S NEXT:

Upon receipt of your application we will mail access into Checkmarq, the university information system. Do not lose this access, you will need it to verify your application status and to accept/decline financial aid awards.

Upon completion of your transfer application, the review process begins and typically takes about 4 weeks. During the review process, an official credit evaluation of your completed college courses is conducted. An official evaluation of your credits along with an academic advising contact is mailed along with the admission letter.

Is your deadline a postmark/submission deadline or the date by which material must reach your office?

All deadlines are postmark/submission dates.

Can I defer my admission?

Although we do not formally offer deferment, you can request to be evaluated again for a future term. Admission evaluation will be conducted again based upon any additional completed coursework. If academic performance is consistent with previous performance, typically a similar admission decision will be made.

What is the application fee?

There is no application fee.

Can I change the college to which I applied after submitting my application?

Any changes to your application should be submitted in writing to admissions@marquette.edu. Include your name, date of birth and request.
