College of Education

Schroeder ComplexAs a teacher, you'll prepare people to lead extraordinary lives. You'll profoundly influence young people by fostering their intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth. You'll experience joy when a student looks you in the eye and tells you, "I can do this." You'll feel the happiness of your students' successes, and you'll help students discover and use gifts they never realized they had.

Find a cause. Social justice is one of Marquette's core values, and it's at the heart of the College of Education. We won't just arm you with the knowledge and skills you'll need to succeed. We'll also show you how you can change the world from your spot in the classroom.

Looking beyond your bachelor's? The College of Education's secondary education program was ranked in the top 100 of America's best graduate schools in 2007 by U.S. News and World Report.

Learn from nationally known faculty who continue to innovate the field with their research in areas such as special literacy, bilingual education, and Catholic education.

Our location in the heart of Wisconsin's largest city and the state's biggest public school system gives you a unique perspective and appreciation for the diverse ways students — young and adult — learn.

Our collaboration with Milwaukee's public and private schools means you'll have plenty of opportunities to practice what you're learning through field experiences in schools around the city. You'll observe, assist and teach in a variety of school settings through the Milwaukee area: urban, suburban, bilingual, public and parochial.

HELPING CHILDREN ONE BOOK AT A TIME

At the Hartman Literacy and Learning Center, children and undergraduate teachers in training learn from and with each other. Children get the special attention they need to improve their reading skills — and understand what they read. Student teachers get firsthand experience with leading a classroom of their own. It's a special place that exemplifies Marquette's Jesuit mission of caring for the whole person and the College of Education's commitment to put outstanding, culturally sensitive teachers in urban classrooms.
