File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
January 1 – February 15
For students and families who wish to have the chance of receiving any financial aid beyond merit-based scholarships (and, really, who doesn't?), we recommend filing the FAFSA during this window. (January 1 is the first day you can legally file for financial aid for the academic year.)
Most families will not have their taxes done by February 15, but that's OK. You are permitted (and, as far as we're concerned, encouraged) to file the FAFSA with an estimate. Because financial aid is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, it's far better to file early with an estimate than to wait until your taxes are complete.
February 15
This is the postmark deadline for many of our scholarship programs, including the Burke Scholarship and Marquette Club scholarships.
Downloadable applications and procedures for these programs are available online.
Mid-March
Financial aid and scholarship notification ought to be in or near your hands at this time, provided you have filed the FAFSA early and have met the deadlines for all scholarship programs. This will give you a cushion of a month or so to determine if Marquette will be a financially reasonable option for you.
