“This is an important step forward as we continue to embrace diversity and enhance inclusivity within our campus community. The GSRC will encourage dialogue and growth around issues of gender and sexuality –
both as a university and as individuals,”
DR. WILLIAM WELBURN,
ASSOCIATE PROVOST FOR
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
Under the direction of the Office of the Provost, the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center
provides a bridge space supporting scholarly work and the lived experience of gender and sexuality. As one of the nation's leading Catholic and Jesuit universities, Marquette University is committed to advancing human rights and human dignity as an expression of the Jesuit principle of
cura personalis, which calls for treating people with respect for their unique qualities, gifts and challenges as individuals.
The GSRC's mission is to provide a space dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, dialogue, growth and empowerment around issues of gender and sexuality by:
- Fostering a campus climate in which the dignity of human persons and the diversity of gender identity and sexuality are respected and discussed in a safe environment
- Encouraging dialogue and advancing scholarship on gender and sexuality, both local and global, with a focus on the intersections of gender and sexuality with race and ethnicity, economic status, religion and culture
- Providing a safe and welcoming space and assisting with educational and advocacy efforts for victims of sexual assault and other gender-related violence, harassment and discrimination
- Advocating for Marquette's LGBTQ community members and allies
