Director of Donor Relations and Advancement Communications
Position overview:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Donor Relations and Advancement Communications, the Director of Donor Relations and Advancement Communications plans, organizes, and manages the University's donor relations program and its staff. Working closely with University Advancement fundraisers, the Director designs long-term stewardship and recognition programs that enrich the relationship between the University and its benefactors. (S)he understands well the importance of building life-long relationships between the University and its alumni and friends. In addition the Director will assist, as necessary, with the management of the advancement writing staff and work load. S/he will partner closely with the Senior Director to coordinate and leverage the work of communications and donor relations.
Duties and responsibilities:
Develops and supervises a comprehensive donor relations program, ensuring that donors remain vitally connected to the University and in a position to understand the positive impact of their gifts;
Collaborate with University Advancement fundraising colleagues on developing and deploying individualized plans for annual, major and leadership gifts, including a standard of how donors should be recognized and stewarded. Communicate the standard university-wide;
Initiate and coordinate the planning and development of ongoing recognition events;
Work closely with University Advancement colleagues, senior administrators, and volunteer leadership to design highly targeted initiatives to connect individuals or organizations with the University;
Coordinate the planning, research, design and printing of stewardship publications;
Oversee and manage the generation of stewardship reports;
Benchmark on a regular basis against peer and aspirational schools in order to find best practices for donor relations;
Coordinate, in partnership with the Senior Director, projects and new initiatives with the Advancement Communications team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
The ideal candidate possesses a minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in the areas of donor relations, development, alumni relations, and/or marketing and communications. The candidate also possesses a Bachelor's degree or advanced degree. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a track record of organizing successful fundraising, donor relations, alumni relations, and/or marketing and communications programs and activities. S(he) must demonstrate management experience, particularly for the successful leadership, supervision, and professional development of staff. S(he) initiates programmatic activities independently, organizes, sets priorities, and completes work in a timely manner despite many deadlines and competing requirements.
