HOW WE USE YOUR GIFT

There was a time that Oleg Gurin had no idea that he would eventually attend Marquette to earn his degree in business, with a double major in finance and accounting and as part of the Applied Investment Management program.

“I could not imagine 10 years ago that I would live and study in the United States. Then, I was running operations at a small company in Moscow producing Russian-style dumplings.”

In March 2001, Oleg and his wife Alina moved to Milwaukee and he began to study English, passing the TOEFL exam two years later.

“My passion for numbers and business experience led to the decision to pursue a degree in accounting. I was considering two universities: University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Marquette University. I was concerned about higher tuition at Marquette. After visiting both campuses, however, I made my choice, which was determined by greater accessibility of faculty and better student services at Marquette University. One of those services was financial aid. The people at the financial aid office were very friendly and supportive. They convinced me that a study at Marquette University is affordable for everybody having desire to learn.”

With its long-standing tradition of ethics-based education, the College of Business Administration offers a course of study grounded in the recognition that conducting business goes beyond the bottom line.

The return on your investment in scholarships for today’s business students multiplies over time. Not only are you investing in aspiring, talented students, but you are also contributing to a more socially responsible business climate in the future.

Oleg has joined the ranks of those who are actively engaged in the national conversation about ethics and social responsibility and who will seek to take a greater leadership role in the business community.
