The Graduate School’s budget for travel awards is limited. We are very pleased to have increased our student travel budget by several fold in recent years, and we will be able to cover the same number of student travel requests as were awarded last year. But if the number of applications this year increases, we will need to deny some requests.
It is in the students' interest to apply as early as possible for these awards (i.e., as soon as possible after being notified of the acceptance of one's presentation and after matching funds have been secured). Awards are made based on two time periods: July 1 to Dec. 31, and Jan. 1 to June 30. During these periods, applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, and awards are made based on the date of the conference presentation. Awards will first be made to those applying for travel early within these two time periods. If the budget runs out, those applying for later dates within these two time periods will not receive awards. Students can only apply once for each conference presentation and may only receive one award per academic year.
The maximum amount of Graduate School travel awards per student per academic year is $300. In accordance with Marquette University’s travel reimbursement policy, receipts must be submitted for reimbursement no later than 10 days after a trip. Therefore, Graduate Travel Award applications received more than one week after the end of a trip cannot not be considered.
