Marquette University and University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Exchange

MU to UWM Exchange Application Process

Application Requirements

  • You must be a Marquette University, graduate degree-seeking student in good standing
  • The course that you propose to take at University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (UWM) must be one that is not offered at Marquette.

Exceptions:

a) The course is required for your degree.

b) The course is not being offered during the term in question.

If both of those conditions are met, then you may take the course at UWM even if Marquette does occasionally offer the same course.

  • You must register at Marquette for the GRAD 6933 course that will reflect the course that you are taking at UWM.

These are variable credit, variable title courses that will show the same title and number of credits as the course that you are taking at UWM.

To register at Marquette for GRAD 6933, you must complete the appropriate 6933 registration form.

* Submission of the GRAD 6933 form will cause you to be manually registered at Marquette. You are unable to register for this course via CheckMarq.

You must get the approval of your adviser, the DGS in your department, or your department chair. The form should then be submitted to the Graduate School. You must be manually registered for the course, and the Graduate School will do this for you.

  • You must also apply at UWM using the following link: https://graduateschool-apply.uwm.edu/and select the "Marquette/UWM Exchange Application" link. There will be no application fee and no supporting documents required.  If you have questions about the UWM application, please contact Mr. Christopher Parks ccp2@uwm.edu or (414) 229-6332.

Once admitted to UWM, you must register at UWM for the class that you intend to take. Chris Parks can help you with registration. There is a limit of six (6) credits that may be taken at UWM and transferred into a Marquette degree program.

  • Because of differences in timing of the terms between Marquette and UWM, the grade for GRAD 6933 will not be reflected on your Marquette end-of-term grade report. You will initially be given a grade of Course Incomplete ("IC"), which will be changed to the appropriate grade once all of the administrative steps are completed. Generally UWM courses run later than MU course. Because of this lag, you should be aware that if you take a course at UWM during your final term, your graduation most likely will need to be delayed.
  • Tuition is paid at Marquette University at the Marquette University per credit rate.

If you have any other questions, please contact the Graduate School: (414) 288-7137.

UWM to MU Exchange Application Process

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) graduate students may take one or more courses at Marquette University under the auspices of the MU-UWM Exchange Program. Students must be degree-seeking graduate students in order to be eligible.

UWM students must apply to the Marquette University Graduate School for admission as a non-degree student. The Application for Marquette-UWM Exchange Program form shall be used, and may be hand-delivered, faxed, or mailed to:

Marquette University Graduate School
1324 West Wisconsin Avenue, Room 305
Milwaukee, WI 53233
Fax: (414) 288-1902

The application fee will be waived, and no supporting documents will be required other than confirmation from an official at UWM that you are a degree-seeking graduate student in good standing and are eligible for the Exchange Program. At this time, the UWM certifying official is Chris Parks (ccp2@uwm.edu or (414) 229-6332).

You will be responsible to UWM for tuition at the UWM rate, and Marquette University tuition will be waived for students who are admitted to this Exchange Program.

Marquette University and Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Exchange

MU to MCW Exchange Application Process

Requirements

  • You must be a degree-seeking student in good standing.
  • The course you propose to take at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) must be one that is not offered at Marquette.

Exceptions are considered if:

  • The course is required for your degree
  • You intend to graduate at the end of the term in question, and...
  • The course is not being offered during the term in question.

If the above three exceptions are met,  you may take the course at MCW even if Marquette does occasionally offer the same course.

Registration Instructions

Follow the two step process, starting with registration through Marquette first, followed by registration at MCW. Registration must happen in this order in order to be valid.

Step 1- Register at Marquette

  • Obtain approval from your adviser, the DGS in your department, or your department chair.
  • Return the completed form to the Marquette University Graduate School, who will manually register you for the course.

Step 2- Register at Medical College of Wisconsin

    • Contact MCW (Angela Backus at abackus@mcw.edu) to register as a non-degree student. There will be no application fee and no supporting documents required.
    • Once admitted to MCW, you must register at the other institution for the class that you intend to take. Ms. Backus can help you with registration.

Program Conditions

  • There is a limit of six (6) credits that may be taken at MCW and transferred into a Marquette degree program.
  • Upon completion of the course at MCW, you must get a copy of your transcript that shows the grade that you received, and bring it to the Graduate School. The Graduate School will apply that grade to your Marquette GRAD 6945 course.
  • Because of differences in timing of the terms between Marquette and MCW, and because of the necessity of you getting a copy of your transcript, bringing it to the Graduate School, and having the grade applied to your Marquette record, the grade for GRAD 6945 will not be reflected on your Marquette end-of-term grade report. You will initially be given a grade of Incomplete, which will be changed to the appropriate grade once all of the administrative steps are completed. Because of this lag, you should be aware that if you take a course at MCW during the term of your graduation from Marquette, your graduation will be delayed.
  • Tuition is paid at Marquette University.
