On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the Haggerty, the museum will present a special exhibition to highlight some of the treasures of its Permanent Collection. The enormous variety of works will be organized in individual pairings that invite the viewer to consider one work in relationship to another and re-see the collection through the pairings.
This exhibition will consist of art in all mediums acquired through donations from generous collectors and artists, bequests, and museum purchases. The museum has acquired several new works, which will be shown for the first time. Also to be unveiled in this exhibition are recently conserved paintings that have been newly researched and interpreted. This exhibition will give audiences a rare opportunity to see highlights from the Haggerty’s Permanent Collection.
The museum, which opened in 1984, was built to house Marquette's art collection, which dates to the late nineteenth century. The Haggerty’s 25th anniversary exhibition will commemorate the history of the museum and more than 100 years of collecting art at Marquette with some of its finest holdings.
