May 30 - June 1, 2013
Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI
Donald A. Neumann, PT, PhD, FAPTA and David M. Williams, MPT, PhD, ATC, CSCS
Dr. Neumann and Dr. Williams have partnered to share their combined knowledge of clinical science and practice of musculoskeletal evaluation and treatment. Their combined experiences include over 50 years of teaching, practice, writing, research, and activities related to health care and fitness.
The course is designed for clinicians who evaluate, prescribe, and instruct their clients in upper quarter exercises, with goals of improving the functional potential and health of their clients. A strong foundation will be presented on the normal and abnormal kinesiology of the upper extremity and adjacent trunk. Through a format of lecture, demonstration, and written materials, kinesiologic principles will be integrated with the latest approach to exercise prescription and performance, regardless of age or level of performance. Exercises are presented in a progressive manner, from isolated to integrated movements. These unique and clinically relevant exercise progressions can be immediately incorporated to improve clinic practice.
As exercises are presented, coaching cues, corrective techniques, and common technique faults will be highlighted. Many patient/client cases are incorporated to provide insight into the clinical reasoning behind exercise prescription, and to highlight the specificity to which exercise programs can be tailored to each patient/client.
At the end of this course, participants can:
This course is appropriate for AT’s, PT’s, OT's, PTAs, Strength and Conditioning Specialists, and Personal Trainers who prescribe and supervise exercise regimes.
Earn 18 hours of CEUs, approved through the NCSA, #B1059; the BOC for athletic trainers, provider #P2704; the WPTA, #14987; and 1.6 CEUs approved through the American Council on Exercise, #cep61835.
