
April L. Harkins, Ph.D., MT(ASCP)
There was a strong MU CLS presence at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), July 17-21, in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. April Harkins, Assistant Professor in CLS, won the Scientific Poster Award Professional Category with her presentation of Analysis of Adhesive and Biofilm Abilities of non-albicans Candida. This is the 3rd time in 5 years that Dr. Harkins has taken home this national award.
Dr. Harkins also was awarded an ASCLS Education & Research Fund Grant for her biofilm research along with co-investigators E. Hill, K. Landis-Piwowar, and P. Tille of South Dakota.
Cuifen Li, a 2012 graduate in Clinical Laboratory Science, won the Undergraduate Student Category Scientific Poster Award for presentation of her research, VerifyNow® P2Y12 Test in Clopidogrel and Aspirin Combination Therapy. MU CLS students have presented scientific research posters at each of the last 4 national meetings and have won the Undergraduate Poster Award 3 times in those 4 years.
