Staff

Amy Melichar, M.Ed., CHES
Coordinator of Health Education and Promotion

Amy is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), and holds a B.S. in Community Health Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, as well as a M.Ed. in Health Education from Carroll University. She has been a Health Educator for Marquette University’s Center for Health Education and Promotion/Student Health Service since 1997. As a staff Health Educator, her primary responsibility was advising, training, and coordinating the Peer Health Education program.  

In the fall of 2004, Amy took on the role of Coordinator of Health Education and Promotion at Marquette. In this role, Amy manages and oversees the daily operation of the Center's health education efforts, services and resources available to the Marquette University student community, while still supervising the Peer Health Education program. In addition to her role at Marquette, Amy also works as an adjunct lecturer at Carroll University.

Amy has served in many national volunteer roles. She served as the American College Health Association's (ACHA) Health Promotion Section Secretary and Historian for three years; Section Chair from 2008-09; and currently serves as the Section Nominating Committee Chair. From 2001-2007, Amy also served as The BACCHUS Network's Wisconsin State Coordinator. In 2007, she took over as Area Consultant for Area 4 of The BACCHUS Network

Amy has won many awards for her work in health education and promotion. In 2003, Amy was recognized as “Advisor of the Year” at The BACCHUS Network's national General Assembly conference. Under her advising, the Marquette University Peer Health Education program also won “Outstanding Affiliate” awards at both The BACCHUS Network's 2003 and 2008 national conferences. In 2006, Amy was awarded a Marquette University Division of Student Affairs recognition award for her exceptional contributions and service to student affairs and the Marquette community.

 

Becky Michelsen, M.Ed., CHES

Health Educator

Becky joined the Center for Health Education and Promotion as a Health Educator in the fall of 2008. Prior to working at Marquette University, she served as the Community Outreach Coordinator for Mental Health America of Wisconsin, and as a Community Education Specialist for The Women's Center, Inc. 

Becky is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), and holds a B.S. in Community Health Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, as well as an M.Ed. in Health Education from Carroll College.

 

Jessica May

Office Assistant

Jessica graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in Communication Studies. While an undergrad at the U of M, she worked as a Health Advocate, providing health education programming and first aid services to students in the residence halls. Her experience as a Health Advocate sparked an interest in health communications, and working with college student populations. Jessica brought these interests to Marquette University in the fall of 2005, where she continues to work as the Office Assistant in the Center for Health Education & Promotion.

 

Christine Hayes

Health Education Preceptee

Christine is a senior at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, majoring in Community Health Education. Throughout her undergraduate career, she has been involved with UW-L Club Sports, spending two years as the president of the Martial Arts Club and one year as president of the Club Sports Executive Council. While in La Crosse, Christine volunteered with New Horizons Shelter and Women’s Center and the La Crosse County Health Department’s Health Education Division. For the last year and a half, she has also worked as a Program Assistant with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse, helping to provide health-related programming for an after-school program for low-income students in the La Crosse area.

Christine's joined the Center for Health Education and Promotion in Spring 2010 as a preceptee. Her main interests in health education are personal safety and violence prevention. She is also interested in learning more about nutrition and sexual health promotion, during her time at Marquette.

 

Jacob Schueller

Graphic Design Assistant

Jacob is a freshman at Marquette University, majoring in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering. On campus, he is involved in Running Club and The Warrior, an independent student news publication. Jacob has been working in graphic design for four years; three of those years were spent working on his high school newspaper, for which he served as Editor-in-Chief. He joined the Center for Health Education and Promotion in Fall 2009, because enjoys being able to put creative concepts to work for a cause.
