Welcome to the 2015 History Department newsletter! This is the eleventh newsletter since I became chair. Sometimes the years seem to blur together, but this year, like all the others, had its own character and notable moments. There is tons of information in this year’s newsletter—about faculty, undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni of all kinds. We had two retirements, but also hired two new faculty members. We relished settling into our new offices: getting the pictures hanged, having lunch in the atrium, holding receptions, talks, and parties in various Sensenbrenner spaces. And, under the direction of Denny Darmek of MU’s Instructional Media Center, we produced a video about the students, faculty, and programs in the department called “History Matters.” You can watch it on Youtube.
I want to remind you that if you want to stay in touch with the department in between annual newsletters, you should join nearly 600 folks we have “liked” our Facebook page. You can also get emails announcing new blog posts on Historians@Work. We’ve posted about seventy-five essays on a wide range of topics since 2012; there have been about 18,500 views, and just under 8000 unique visitors.
There is much, much more to learn about the 2014-2015 academic year in this newsletter. As always, please send your questions and news to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. And, as always, thanks to Jolene Kreisler, our wonderful administrative assistant, for her work on putting this newsletter online.
