"An Earnest Desire"

The students who enrolled in Hist 4101/5101, “Applied History” during the spring semester 2011-2012 had two assignments. The first was to create a documentary movie on the two Jesuit missionary schools on the Lakota reservations in South Dakota. “An Earnest Desire” is an eleven-minute documentary that tells the stories of the missionaries and the Indian students. Working in four teams, the students selected images from the MU Archives, found documents and wrote the text, selected music to support the images and text, and edited and produced the version accessible from this site. The second project was to create a four-panel exhibit on the Marquette Warrior nickname and mascots. This exhibit, “The Last Warrior,” can be viewed on the second floor of Raynor Library through the end of May.
