News from Undergraduate History Majors

Curtis Barsic will attend the M.A. program in public history at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Jamie Cannarozzi will be teaching at an elementary school on an Indian reservation in South Dakota for Teach for America.

Peter Dobek will be studying for a master’s degree in medieval studies at the University of Toronto.

Joel Halvorsen will work at the University Club of Milwaukee while also volunteering for City Year and applying to enter law school in 2011.

Chris McFadin, a student of Julius Ruff’s, has won the Dittman Research Paper Competition in the junior/senior category; that same paper will be published in a future issue of History Matters. Chris will begin his PhD in early modern European history at the University of Iowa in the fall.

Jennifer Hammernik will work as an intern on a political campaign this summer and eventually hopes to earn an M.A. in public administration.

Daniel McLain received the department’s Jablonowski Award for his essay on “The Imperial Presidency and Interventionism.”

Michelle Scaperlanda accepted a position with Magis, a program very similar to ACE. I will be attending graduate school at Creighton, teaching high school Social Studies and English at Lourdes Central Catholic in Nebraska City, and living in community with other people in the program.

Nick Tomaszewski, the department’s 2010 Boden Award winner, will enter the PhD program at Boston College.

Renee Young will continue her internship at the Chudnow Museum of Yesteryear while she searches for a permanent job after graduation.
