Alumni, parents and friends call to service

As Marquette alumni, parents and friends, we continue to honor the words of the late Jesuit superior general, Rev. Pedro Arrupe, S.J., who called us in the Jesuit tradition to be men and women for others. Whether we give passionately and generously to those in our neighborhoods or across the globe, we — the Marquette community of more than 175,000 alumni, parents and friends — strive for excellence, faith, leadership and service.

In the spirit of magis, which invites us to do and be more, we strive for the greater good, joining this service initiative that asks us to give generously of our gifts. We are Marquette.

In 2000, Rev. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J., then-superior general of the Society of Jesus, reminded us that, "The real measure of our Jesuit universities lies in who our students become ... and the adult Christian responsibility they will exercise in the future towards their neighbor and their world" ("The Service of Faith"). As a community rooted in the spiritual heritage of St. Ignatius, we are invited to remain alert about the ways we have been called to respond to our families, friends, colleagues, faith communities and the world — with care and compassion, especially for the poor. Marquette's Call to Service asks us to engage deeply with each other and the world.
