Why Incubate?

Marquette’s strategic plan, Beyond Boundaries, calls on the university to think differently and act differently. It challenges Marquette to innovate, to collaborate and to embrace new methods of teaching and learning. Central to all three is the Program Incubator — an initiative that will provide the necessary tools, support and standardized processes to successfully assess, develop and implement new and dynamic graduate programs.

An academic program incubator offers several advantages:

  • Reduced internal barriers and provides sufficient incentive to inspire new program development.
  • A centrally managed unit that can more easily and efficiently provide necessary support to evaluate, develop and implement new academic programs, modalities or technologies.
  • A standardized approach to new program development that offers transparency into the process and the appropriate incentives, as well as ongoing support.
  • The necessary skill set and infrastructure that colleges and schools may not possess internally.
