In January 2011, IT Services upgraded from
SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010. To learn about the new version, sign up for
a GROW training session. To request
additional training, please contact the Help Desk.
What's new in SharePoint 2010?
- There is a new user interface with improved navigation and the ribbon you are already familiar with in other Microsoft Office applications. View the Microsoft videos and Quick Reference Card, Make the switch to the SharePoint 2010 user interface.
- Documents in a SharePoint library can be edited using a browser and Office Web Apps. This means that documents can be edited by more than one person at the same time. Site owners who want to avoid simultaneous editing can require versioning and checkout. Documents can still be opened using the appropriate Office application, for example Word or Excel.
- Permission management tools have been enhanced so that it is easier to view and adjust permission levels for sites, libraries, lists and documents.
- Improvements to My Sites allow users to store and share information online, develop a profile, mark or tag items of interest, and receive activity feeds to follow colleagues’ activities.
