Marquette Board of Trustees selects presidential search committee

Marquette University’s Board of Trustees has announced the full search committee for Marquette’s 24th president. The presidential search committee will be chaired by John Ferraro, Bus Ad ’77, vice chair of the Board of Trustees and global chief operating officer at Ernst & Young.

This is the first search in Marquette’s history to include a dean and a faculty member along with Board of Trustees members. The committee also includes deep academic leadership experience in Mitchem, who was formerly a faculty member in Marquette’s history department and director of the Educational Opportunity Program; Father O’Keefe, who is a professor of education at Boston College and a former dean of the college’s Lynch School of Education; and Orlowski, who served as associate vice president and executive dean of Rush University Medical School in Chicago.

A permanent president is expected to be in place for the 2014-15 academic year. Rev. Robert A. Wild, S.J., will lead the university as interim president until August 2014, the university announced last week. Father Wild, who served as president of Marquette from 1996 to 2011, will take over for Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., who announced his resignation on Sept. 20, to pursue other apostolic opportunities and care for his ailing parents.

The university also announced last week that Dr. Margaret Faut Callahan, interim provost and dean of the College of Nursing, will continue in her role as interim provost until a provost search can be completed under a permanent president.
