Biographical Note

Stephen L. Anderson was born on May 18, 1944 in Stoughton, WI and was raised in Atlanta, GA and Knoxville, TN.  He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for his undergraduate degree, where he received a BA in Spanish Language and Literature; he also holds an MA in Spanish Language and Literature and MSSW in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  He served in Chile as a member of the Peace Corps from 1966-1969, and has since worked as a psychotherapist in Milwaukee, WI.

In addition to his work in psychology, Stephen Anderson is an award-winning poet and writer.  His work has appeared in Southwest Review, Verse Wisconsin, Free Verse, New Purlieu Review, Tipton Poetry Journal, Harvests of New Millennium, Wisconsin Poets’ Calendar, Fox Cry Review, Brawler, Foundling Review, and The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.  He is the author of Montezuma Resurrected and Other Poems (2001), The Silent Tango of Dreams (2006), Navigating in the Sun (2015), In the Garden of Angels and Demons (2017), and The Dream Angel Plays the Cello, Poems (2019).

Although native to the Midwest, Anderson has spent time in Chile, as a university lecturer at the Queen Mary & Westfield College at the University of London, and has taken numerous trips to Europe and Trinidad and Tobago, his wife’s native country.  His poetry reflects his sense of himself as a citizen of the world, rather than solely a Midwesterner.
