History: School Sisters of Notre Dame. North American Province Archives, founded 2017, comprises the archival holdings of eight former province archives, two of which contain records pertaining to Native Americans -- the Dallas Province and the Milwaukee Province.

Founded in Bavaria, 1833, the School Sisters of Notre Dame have self-identified with the post-nominal initials, S.S.N.D.” They established their Milwaukee Province, 1850, their Dallas Province, 1961, and staffed and/or administered the following missions, parishes, and schools among Native Americans.
