Biographical Note: Darwin Mendel Cohen was born June 4,
1919 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His father was Aaron Cohen, a merchant. Darwin Cohen
graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. He attended Marquette University from
September 1938 through February 1943 and earned a bachelors of philosophy. While at
Marquette, he was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi, the Sociology Club, the marching
band, and the orchestra. During the summer of 1939, Cohen attended George Washington
University. He was an avid fan of athletics, attending both college and professional
events. At some undetermined date, Cohen legally changed his name to Huxley. He
died on May 6, 1992. Scope and Content: The collection contains items from a scrapbook assembled by Darwin M. Huxley during his undergraduate years at Marquette University, ca. 1936 through ca. 1944. It includes photographs documenting his participation in the band, correspondence, various newspaper clippings, and ephemera relating to Marquette University. Arrangement: The items were originally contained in a scrapbook which had deteriorated. The pages had fallen out of order, and the items were beginning to come unglued. To preserve the collection, the items were removed from each page and the original binding was discarded. Newspaper clippings were photocopied onto acid-free paper and the originals discarded. Items were arranged by type or by subject. |
