Position: Head of Acquisitions, Cataloging, and Metadata Services
Reports to: Dean of Libraries
Marquette University Libraries seek an innovative and dynamic librarian with strong leadership
and managerial skills for the position of Head of Acquisitions and Metadata Services.
Marquette University is an independent, Catholic, Jesuit doctoral-granting institution with an
enrollment of 11,500 located near downtown Milwaukee. The two adjacent and connected
library buildings seat 2,150 and house a 1.7 million volume collection, 300 networked resources, and

Appointment will be made at the Associate or full Librarian rank.
Essential functions: Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, this position manages a
department of seven librarians (direct supervision) and nine support staff; sets policy for monographic
acquisitions and cataloging, metadata creation, authority control, database maintenance, and physical
processing of library materials; responds to and anticipates user needs; plans for future activities and
projects in accordance with new developments in resource discovery; serves as a member of
Administrative Council; and collaborates with colleagues in library-wide planning, budgeting, and policy
development.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Masters' degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited library school.
- Five years (minimum) of managerial experience in technical services in an academic or research
library.
- Knowledge of standards, trends, and best practices in acquisitions, cataloging, and metadata
creation for digital collections.
- Experience supervising full time staff.
- Experience with integrated library systems and cataloging modules.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Experience with planning.
- Ability to interact effectively with a broad range of staff within the library, the university and in
collaborative initiatives with other institutions.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
- Commitment to diversity.
- Record of professional activity in areas related to position responsibilities.
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Experience supervising professional staff.
- Experience with integrated library systems acquisitions modules.
- Experience with managing digital projects.
