In order to maximize the availability of study space and materials for members of the Marquette community, as well as to ensure that only approved Marquette users have access to the facility, the following is the access policy for the Raynor Memorial Libraries:

MARQUETTE STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF AND ADMINISTRATORS
Marquette students, faculty, staff and administrators must present a valid Marquette ID to enter the turnstiles and are not allowed to “swipe” in other users.  Individuals having problems with access through the turnstile should see the Library representative at the visitor registration counter.

Unless otherwise noted, library hours for guests and limited research pass holders are: *
Monday - Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday
9:00 AM - 10:00 PM
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Noon - 5:00 PM
Noon - 10:00 PM
* Hours may vary during holidays, breaks, and summer sessions.

GUESTS OF MARQUETTE STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF AND ADMINISTRATORS
Guests accompanied by a valid Marquette ID holder will be admitted to the library after submitting a valid photo ID, which must be left at the registration counter.  Guests will be issued a guest pass that they must carry on them at all times.  The Marquette “host” is responsible for the actions of their guests while inside the library and must be with them for the duration of their visit.

MARQUETTE ALUMNI
Marquette Alumni must show an alumni card and photo ID for entrance.  Alumni without a valid Marquette alumni card can have their alumni status verified at the visitor registration counter.

ANNUAL RESEARCH PASS
Members of the public with a demonstrated and continuing research need can apply for a library card that will allow access privileges for the period of one year, at which time they must reapply.  An Annual Visitor Pass will be issued only after the potential user demonstrates a clear, continuing research need by complying with the following:

  1. Present a letter on University letterhead signed by a faculty member or a letter on corporate letterhead supporting the person’s research needs; or other evidence of scholarly activity.
  2. Discuss the research project with a relevant member of the Raynor Library Research and Outreach Staff or an Archivist.
  3. Purchase an Annual Visitor Pass for $50.00 and an ID card for $5.00.
  4. Read and comply with the acceptable use policy.  Successful applicants will be issued a Marquette University photo ID that will allow them access to the Raynor Library and which must be presented upon request of university staff.  The university reserves the right to deny the application of any requestor, and access privileges can be revoked by the university at any time.

Application for Annual Research Pass

LIMITED RESEARCH PASS
Individuals with a limited, yet demonstrated research need, can request a one-day guest pass.  This pass will be issued only after the potential user demonstrates a clear research need, submits a valid photo ID that must be left at the counter, and pays a $5.00 fee.  Guests will be issued a guest pass that they must carry on them at all times.  The pass must be turned into library staff to retrieve their ID and will be good for that day only.  The university reserves the right to deny the application of any requestor, and access privileges can be revoked by the university at any time.

VISITORS TO THE J. R.R. TOLKIEN DISPLAY / DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
Individuals interested in viewing the display of Tolkien materials must provide a valid photo ID that will be kept at Raynor's visitor registration counter.  A library staff member will escort all non-campus visitors to and from the Department of Special Collections.  Due to limited hours and staffing, appointments are encouraged and access will be granted only when staff time permits.

ADMISSIONS AND OTHER TOURS
A Marquette tour guide or host must present a valid Marquette ID and provide the receptionist at the library registration counter with the number of people on the tour.  Access for such tours is limited to the public areas of the library.

CONFERENCES AND PUBLIC EVENTS
Members of the public attending conferences and public events will be provided identification badges that must be worn at all times.

GENERAL PUBLIC ACCESS
There is no access for members of the general public.

There will be ongoing review of these policies and changes will be communicated accordingly.
