November 2011—Raynor Memorial Libraries has added a significant collection of e-books from ebrary, part of the ProQuest Corporation. Numbering more than 70,000 titles spanning all academic subject areas, the ebrary collection is expected to meet a growing demand from Marquette users, support distance learning, and provide anytime/anywhere access to scholarly e-books.
Content Overview: ebrary has more than 500 publishing partners, including most university presses. New books are added continuously. In addition to ebrary's search engine, all ebrary books are cataloged in MARQCAT to enhance discovery. The ebrary collection is arranged into 15 subject areas, each of which may be browsed and searched individually: anthropology, business & economics, computers and IT, education, fine arts, history, language & literature, law, life sciences, medicine, physical sciences, psychology, religion, social sciences, and technology.
Search features: Search in two modes, simple or advanced (advanced allows searching on 14 different fields, such as text, subject, title, author, publisher, etc.). Open a book by clicking on the title name or jacket image (note: requires installation of proprietary software), then use the ebrary tools to navigate, print, take notes, use colored highlighter, or easy export to RefWorks.
Bookshelf feature: ebrary offers a "Bookshelf" feature, allowing reader to set up an account and tag items for a personal list, as well as manage, archive, and share research in your bookshelf.
