August 2011—ProQuest, one of the Marquette Libraries' largest vendors of research databases, has migrated most of its electronic products to an all-new platform. In addition to a new look, searching in ProQuest databases will offer new user-friendly and intuitive features, some of which are listed below.
Some of the interface changes that make searching easier:
All of the Libraries' most popular ProQuest databases have already been converted, including ABI-Inform, American Periodicals Series, Dissertations and Theses, The New York Times (historical archive 1851-2007), ProQuest Research Library, and the Wall Street Journal. In addition, most of the databases offered by ProQuest subsidiary Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA), have been re-branded and moved to the new ProQuest platform: Index Islamicus, Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts, Philosopher's Index, Political Science Abstracts, PAIS International,Social Services Abstracts, Sociological Abstracts, and Water Resources Abstracts. ProQuest databases and subsidiary company, such as Chadwyck-Healey, databases are or will be scheduled to convert later in 2011 or 2012.
Marquette has opted to link the users to the Advanced Search screen; to conduct a simple or quick search and to find a detailed description of the database, click on the "Search" link under the database title. To assist users who wish to learn more about the new interface and its search tools, ProQuest has posted several guides: begin with the Quick Start Reference Overview (8 p., PDF) or User Guide (12 p., PDF).
