Sept. 23-25 (Friday through Sunday), 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily. In celebration of the inauguration of Fr. Pilarz, four volumes of the St. John's Bible will be exhibited in the lobby of Raynor Library. This will be a rare opportunity to see together the volumes for Genesis, Psalms, Wisdom Books, and Prophets, plus several matted prints. Login Changes

In order to provide consistency on how users log into library services, several changes were made in August. Off-campus users of licensed databases will now use their Marqnet username and password. Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) login also is now the Marqnet standard. More...

Collection News

More than 15 new electronic resources were added to the collections since January 2011. African American Newspapers, Electronic Enlightenment, and Chicano Database are among the new titles. NAXOS Spoken Word Library represents the Libraries' first venture into streaming audiobooks with more than 750 American and English classics and philosophical works from Chaucer to Plato and Shakespeare. Several important database enhancements are notes, including an entirely new search interface for ProQuest titles and a paper to online migration for the popular Value Line Investment Survey. The Faculty Guide to Libraries is now online. For new or long-time faculty, the guide gathers in one place answers to all your questions about access and services. A tab for "Forms" gathers all the applications and request forms in one handy page. More...

This widget (pictured at left) can be added to the home page of your D2L course. It allows your students to search MARQCAT and some subscription databases from within D2L, and provides quick links to Ares, Research Guides, and Interlibrary Loan. A tutorial video is available that walks you through how to add the widget to your course. This development is part of a library initiative to create useful learning objects--everything from finding articles in ATLA on specific Bible passages to finding dissertations online and using Foundations in Wisconsin. e-Publications@Marquette has a new “About” page, including more information on submitting materials and answers to frequently asked questions about publisher policies, copyright, and versions allowed for deposit. Since last August (2010) researchers have downloaded materials from e-Publications more than 175,000 times. Faculty who contribute articles and other research to e-Publications@Marquette receive a monthly report detailing the total number of times their works have been downloaded from the site. Greetings from the Dean

On behalf of Raynor Memorial Libraries, it is a pleasure to welcome all of you to a new academic year. At the end of a quiet summer on the Marquette campus, the look and feel of everything changes as students bring new life and faculty return to their classrooms. Marquette has a special place in higher education. As a Catholic and Jesuit university serving Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and beyond our region for more than 100 years, we are very proud as an institution in the way that we put Ignatian pedagogy—context, experience, reflection, action, and evaluation—into practice. At the center of college life, the practices of scholarship and learning do not end in the classroom, and the staff of Raynor Memorial Libraries is ready to aid in developing both. More...

Spring Survey Highlights: LIBQUAL

During February (2011) the Libraries participated in LibQUAL, a national library user survey to assess service quality. The Web-based survey was distributed by e-mail to all faculty and a random sample of students. We had almost 600 responses. We have acted upon the following key findings.

You asked: For more electronic resources accessible from home or office and easy-to-use access tools

We answered:

• By adding electronic journals and books: more than eight million full-text articles in a new collection of 1,800 peer-reviewed journals and 54,000 new e-book titles

• Introducing smart phone access to the website and catalog with MARQmobile

• Including "Top Results for Articles" on the MARQCATplus search results page for integrated access to book and journal articles

• Providing easy off-campus access to library resources via the Marqnet login

You asked: For improvements to library space to inspire study and learning

We answered:

• By expanding collaborative study space on the second floor of Raynor

• Opening the Digital Media Studio with iPads, video cameras, audio recorders and expert help for multimedia projects

• Adding LCD video panels in eight group study rooms

congratulations SCOTT MANDERNACK

Scott Mandernack has been appointed Associate Dean for Scholarly Resources and Collections effective June 1. In this newly-described position, Scott is responsible for administering print and digital resources; managing collection and information resources policy development; and leading the Libraries on issues and trends in scholarly communication. Scott joined the Marquette Libraries in fall 2008 as Head of Research and Instructional Services. Prior to that he served in several positions at Purdue University, most recently head of the Undergraduate Library starting in 2003. Scott's B.A. (Sociology/Anthropology) is from the University of Wisconsin - Parkside and he earned his M.L.S. from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. Scott is active in state and national professional associations and most recently served on a panel and presented two papers at the biennial Association of College and Research Libraries 2011 National Conference. Scott's papers may be accessed via e-Publications@Marquette.

Special Collections News

The Stephen Sondheim Research Collection is now available to researchers. The vast collection of materials relating to the Broadway composer and lyricist was donated by Paul Salsini, Marquette alumnus and professor. The collection includes books, magazines, scripts, scores, reviews, audio and video recordings, posters, and other memorabilia, amassed over 40 years by Salsini. More...

The Department of Special Collections has released its newest digital collection, "I'll Tell You a Story:" Memories of Pre-Holocaust Europe. The collection currently includes 25 full-text transcripts from tape-recorded interviews conducted in 1983. The interview subjects were all Milwaukee residents who were survivors of the Nazi death camps and who were asked about family life, childrearing practices, religions traditions and holidays, social customs, and More...

Summer Projects: Thanks to the concerted help of several students assistants, Special Collections completed the processing of another dozen collections. Some of these collections have never been studied by researchers, making them excellent candidates for original research. See the line-up here.
