Why is this loan Library Use Only?
Loans are designated Library Use Only by the lending institution. We appreciate when an institution is willing to loan materials for our patron use that are of a significant importance to their collection, in fragile condition or valuable (irreplaceable). We MUST honor the lending restrictions of these institutions. The Library Use Only rules are listed below.
If you have an assigned research carrel in the Memorial Library, you may obtain permission to keep library use only materials in your carrel. You must contact the Interlibrary Loan office at (414) 288-7257 or email: mumemill@marquette.edu to obtain prior permission. This must be done on a case-by-case basis.
When returning LIBRARY USE ONLY materials to the Raynor Circulation Desk indicate whether additional use of the material is required or sign the “completed” section of the In Library Use Only form.
You received a print copy of the article you requested if:
For articles that cannot be delivered electronically due to copyright prohibitions, Marquette University Interlibrary Loan has paid a copyright fee (usually $25.00-$30.00) to provide a single copy for your personal academic use. Please note:

Any member of the Marquette University community is eligible to use the ILL service. This includes faculty, full and part time students, administrators and support staff. The service is not available to alumni or to Courtesy Card holders.
The ILL department is able to get many different kinds of materials through the various networks utilized. Books, photocopies of articles, videos, sound recordings, microfilm, and microfiche are commonly obtained for the Marquette community.
Books and photocopies of articles from periodicals not held in the Marquette collection can usually be obtained at no cost to the user. Most borrowing fees are absorbed by the Libraries.
The ILL user must be sure to allow adequate time for the verification, processing, and delivery time to and from the lending institution. Requests are usually filled within two weeks. Some items may arrive more quickly and some may take longer depending on the nature of the material requested.
The lending library sets the due date; thus each book received may have a different due date. Generally the loan period is between two and four weeks.
ILL books can be renewed if the lending library has not placed a No Renewal restriction on the material. All renewals must be requested on or before the due date. Requests for renewals of overdue items will be denied. Request a renewal through the ILLiad System.
Requests are submitted electronically via the ILLiad System.
All ILL print material can be picked up and returned at the Raynor Memorial Library Circulation Desk located on the 1st floor just inside the turnstiles. Most articles and conference papers are available electronically and can be retrieved via the ILLiad System once they are received.
