John C. Barron, Jour ’80, was named editor in chief
of the Chicago Sun-Times. He has worked at the paper since
1995 as a business reporter, Sunday Showcase editor, deputy
features editor, features editor and, most recently, executive
managing editor.
Carmen D. Caruso, Arts ’80, was named
an Illinois Super Lawyer, recognized for his outstanding
practice in business litigation as published in the May 2005
issue of Chicago Magazine. He is a partner with Schwartz,
Cooper, Greenberger & Krauss
in Chicago.
Toni L. Ihler, Arts ’80, has been elected
chair of the Ozaukee County Democratic Party and named to
the Platform and Resolutions Committee of Wisconsin’s
5th Congressional District.

Wells International of Brookfield, Wis., as director of marketing.
Daniel
M. Key, Arts ’84, was featured in the Courier
Press for making the Dean’s List at Hamline University
Law School.
Raymond L. Pelrine, Law ’84, serves
as district attorney of Door County, Wis.
Douglas P. Scott, Law ’85, was appointed director
of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. He
is the former mayor of Rockford and a former state legislator.

Julie A. Leahy, Med Tech ’86, graduated
with a master of arts degree in pastoral ministry from St.

University in Winona, Minn.
Rev. Wayne F. Watts,
Arts ’86, associate administrator
and director of foundation and corporate relations
at Catholic Charities, was honored by Amate House,
a young-adult volunteer service program of the
Archdiocese of Chicago. He has been a member of
the Amate House Board since 1999.
Carmen (Lopez)
Conklin, Sp ’87, is a sales and business
manager for Avon Products Inc. in Denver. She
earned the Circle of Excellence Award in sales for 2004 for
her No. 14 ranking in the nation out of 1,600 managers nationwide.
She was ranked No. 1 in the state of Colorado and earned
a trip to Maui, Hawaii.
Mike Jakubowski, Sp ’87, was named U.S. Bowling Congress
Manager of Sponsorship Acquisitions. He is responsible for
developing, coordinating and fulfilling USBC sponsorship
packages.
Lt. Cmdr. Richard F. Druckman, Dent ’88, returned
in March from an 11-month deployment to Kuwait and Iraq.
He began a two-year fellowship in orofacial pain at the National
Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., in July.
Gregory J. Borowski, Comm ’89, a reporter for the
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, was named Journalist of the Year
for 2004-05 by the Milwaukee Press Club. In addition, his
book First and Long: A Black School, a White School and Their
Season of Dreams was named best sports book of 2004 by the
Midwest Independent Publishers Association and received five
Merit Awards from the Wisconsin State Historical Society.
Melissa (Byrne) Murray, Arts ’89, was elected municipal
judge for the Village of Pewaukee, Wis.
