Stock Car Star
Every week, a stock car can burn through six to eight tires and 20 gallons of race gasoline, adding up to more than $1,000 in expenses.
College of Engineering student Jason Taghikhani isn’t usually a fan of reality TV. But he was revved about the possibilities of Racin’ for a Livin', a new show devoted to finding the next star professional stock car driver.
“This will accelerate the long haul to NASCAR,” he says.
Taghikhani, who was inspired by a racing uncle, was chosen from thousands of candidates for one of 21 slots in the “wild card” category. Online votes determined which five finalists would compete in the show. Although he didn’t make it this season, he plans to try again next year.
“Just being on the show would give a tremendous amount of national exposure,” he says “which will also
benefit our racing team here at home and all our great sponsors.”
The College of Engineering is one sponsor. His pit crew includes Marquette loyalists: Tom Reiss, Eng ’05; and Chris Potokar, a graduate student in engineering.
