Friday Photo: A somber display for suicide awareness

Some 1,100 backpacks representing the 1,100 college students nationally who die by suicide each year were displayed Wednesday on Central Mall. Marquette's chapter of Active Minds — a student organization that promotes mental health discussion and combats student suicide — sponsored the event, which was part of a national traveling exhibit.

Active Minds also passed out beads to honor and remember those who have committed suicide.
