Goodbye home, hello Marquette

Suddenly home is a 10-by-17 room shared with a stranger or two.
Marquette students and alumni on Facebook and Twitter offer nuggets of wisdom for the nearly 2,000 freshmen who recently moved into the residence halls.
“Talk to someone different in your building every day ... including the nice food people and DPS. They're the best.” – Leif Brostrom
“Keep your door open when you're in your room, meet the people on your floor, and get involved with activities going on in your hall.” – Emma Mezzanotte
“Expect the unexpected. Especially if you live in McCormick.” – Adam Chernow
“Respect each other’s space and belongings!” – Nishia Star
“Your RA is here to help you. Talk to them!” – Phillip Hanson
“Spend time with your floor/wing/building. The people you're living with can become your best friends!” – Mandi Baronas
“Make it a weekly tradition to attend Cobeen's Thursday chicken nugget night (Nug Night).” – Paige Jorgensen
“If you're homesick, suck it up and stay on campus at least until the mid-term break first semester. By then you will have settled in, made some great new friends, and realized that Marquette is awesome!” – Lori Sass
“Have a meal at every dorm to figure out which one you like best (though the McCormick Hall ice cream machines ARE the best).” – Chris Altruda
“Start meeting friends. You've got plenty of time to get settled. Before you know it, it will be the end of the semester and you still won't be settled but you will have made lots of friends. Enjoy every minute. The time goes fast.” – Nancy Chadwick-Burke
“You should have chosen Mashuda ... enjoy the public bathrooms! Seriously, MU was a blast. Cherish these moments and meet as many people as you can. Have an open mind and heart and allow Marquette and Milwaukee the opportunity to take your breath away.” – Michael Keppen
“Walk out of your dorm room and meet your floormates, make friends with your RA, take advantage of faculty office hours, attend basketball games, attend mass or some other worship service. And be prepared to love MU more than you thought you would.” – Ana Maria Roback-Troast
Though, I lived off campus on 14th and Kilbourn...I have many fond memories of time spent in my classmates dorm rooms all over campus. My advice, is get to know as many people as possible, don't close yourself off. Your experience will be enriched by the number of people you welcome in to your circle! Go Warriors!
