Meet the class of 2016

From locking elbows with new friends at the Square Dance on Central Mall (a Marquette tradition for more than 30 years) to Rockin' the Rec to breaking down Half A Life by Darin Strauss (the First Year Reading Program selection), it's already been a busy week for our freshmen, who arrived on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2012.

Here's a look at who they are:

1,943 students (including one set of triplets and six sets of twins)

98 are in the Honors Program

33 valedictorians

43 states are home (plus, Guam and Puerto Rico)

361 Legacy students are carrying on the Marquette tradition

326 are the first to attend college in their families

37 boys share the first name Michael (Matthew came in second with 35)

24 girls share the first name Emily (Sarah was a close second with 23)

12 share the surname Smith (just beating Johnson which came in at 11)
