1970-1979
Cindy (Deegan) Cain, Arts ’70, organized a group of
Marquette alumni from Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo, N.Y.,
to make fleece scarves for students from New Orleans’ universities
who were displaced to Marquette due to Hurricane Katrina.
1971 Reunion year
Sister Mary A. Hoope, BVM, Grad ’71, is a member of
a religious community deeply involved with the poor in Ghana.
They teach, nurse, run orphanages, minister to the less fortunate,
and share a special commitment to the development of poor women.
Michael
E. McClure, Grad ’71, was named chief financial
officer of Navios Maritime Holdings Inc. He has worked for
the company for nearly 30 years and served in virtually every
area of the firm.
Prem S. Sharma, Dent ’71, retired associate dean for
academic affairs and a professor at the Marquette University
School of Dentistry, was appointed to the board for Cardinal
Stritch University in Milwaukee.
Kelly H. Twigger, Law ’71, was named partner at Quarles & Brady
LLP in Milwaukee.
Kathleen A. Gray, Arts ’72, Law ’82,

Daniel B. McGrath, Jour ’72,
is sports editor at the Chicago Tribune. He was featured

J. Stepp, Eng ’72, was named president and chief
executive officer of the management consulting and engineering
firm R.W. Beck Inc. He previously was national director of
the water/waste resources practice in the firm’s Seattle
office.
Terry M. Murphy, Grad ’74, joined A.O.
Smith Corp. as senior vice president and chief executive officer.
Murphy joined
A. O. Smith from Quanex Corporation of Houston, a manufacturer
of engineered materials and components for the automotive and
building products industries.
Kathleen S. Roth, Dent ’74,
was named president-elect of the American Dental Association
at the annual meeting in
Philadelphia. She will be installed as president in October
2006.
Dr. John F. Freihaut, Dent ’75, was appointed to the
health strategies council by Georgia Gov. Sonny Purdue. He
has practiced general dentistry for nearly 30 years and specializes
in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is a fellow with the
American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and
the American College of Dentists, and a member and former president
of the Georgia Dental Association.
John J. Hallagon, Arts ’75, a fourth-grade teacher at
Magee Elementary School in Genesee Depot, Wis., was named Wisconsin’s
History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute
of American History and Preserve America. He received an honorarium
and a core archive of history books and materials was donated
to the school library.

John T. Bannen, Law ’76, was certified
as an estate planning law specialist by the Estate Law Specialist
Board
Inc. The
organization is accredited by the American Bar Association
and affiliated with the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils.

Joseph M. Fasi, II, Arts ’76,
joined the Wisconsin law firm of Greenhalgh Krueger Hernandez & Fasi

Todd C. Cozzens, Arts ’77, is the chief executive officer
of Picis, a high-acuity care software company that recently
welcomed former Health and Human Services Secretary and Governor
of Wisconsin Tommy Thompson to its board of directors. Cozzens
co-founded Picis in 1994 and has grown it into a 400-person,
$60 million company that has won numerous awards including
those by Inc. 500, Microsoft, Frost & Sullivan and Healthcare
Informatics. Recently he was named Entrepreneur of the Year
by Ernst and Young.
Margaret (Rudolph) Fehrenbach, Dent Hy ’77,
R.D.H., M.S., published a second edition of Illustrated Dental
Embryology,
Histology, Anatomy (Elsevier). Many of the educational components
of the textbook for dental professionals are also found online.
She is also working on online courses for dental professionals
that are linked from her Web page, www.dhed.net, as well
as a third edition of Illustrated Anatomy of the Head and Neck (Elsevier).

Justice, chronicling the life of the recently retired U.S.
Supreme Court justice. She works for USA Today, previously
covered the high court for The Washington Post, wrote for the
Congressional Quarterly, and is often a guest on “Washington
Week with Gwen Ifill.”
William F. Banholzer, Arts ’79,
was named chief technology officer of Dow Chemical. Previously,
he was vice president
of global technology at GE Advanced Materials.
John J. Pfeifer, Jour ’79, was named president and publisher
of Northern Lakes Publishing in Rhinelander, Wis. Northern
Lakes publishes the Rhinelander Daily News, the weekly Forest
Republican in Crandon and the monthly Business Watch. He moved
to Rhinelander from La Crosse where he had been employed as
regional advertising director for the River Valley Newspaper
Group since 2000.
