New
dean sold on Marquette
“I’m so glad the
university selected me. This is an excellent school with an
excellent reputation, leadership and library staff.”
During
her first visit to campus Janice Simmons-Welburn realized something
seemed familiar. She had read about Marquette’s library
in The Chronicle of Higher Education — and now she was
in it. The library has been widely saluted in academic circles
for
its emphasis on providing students with technology-rich resources.
That approach fits her vision for where libraries need to go.
Add in her respect for Marquette’s emphasis on engaging
students with the world and she was sold.
Simmons-Welborn accepted
the post of dean of libraries and joined the university staff
in early April. “The more I read about Marquette the
more intrigued
I became,” she says. “I’m so glad the university selected
me. This is an excellent school with an excellent reputation, leadership and
library
staff.”
Simmons-Welburn previously served as associate
dean of libraries at the University of Arizona.
