Faculty win prestigious awards and recognition.

Marquette places great importance on helping students understand the Catholic tradition, its relation to other Christian communions and to the other religions of the world — as the Department of Theology Web site states.

And with theology courses a component of the University Core of Common Studies — curriculum required of all undergraduates today — it’s especially pleasing to know that our faculty are highly respected researchers and scholars who’ve earned recognition for outstanding performance in the discipline. We salute their achievements.

• Rev. Michael Fahey, S.J., professor and Doerr Chair in Catholic Systematic Theology, received an honorary doctorate from the University of St. Michael’s College, Toronto, in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of theology.
  
  
• Rev. William Kurz, S.J., professor, won first prize in the 2005 Catholic Press Book Award scripture category for his book What Does the Bible Say About the End Times? This is the second Catholic Press Award that Father Kurz has won in the past three years.
  
  
• Dr. Patrick Carey, professor and William J. Kelly, S.J., Chair in Catholic Theology, won first place in the 2005 Catholic Press Book Award category biography for his book Orestes A. Brownson: An American Religious Weathervane.
  
  
• Dr. Irfan Omar, assistant professor, was awarded a semester Fulbright Fellowship at the University of Melang, Melang, Indonesia.
  
  
• Dr. Kevin Sullivan, assistant professor, won a Catholic Biblical Fellowship Award for postdoctoral study.
