Conference launches
scholarly publication

Fourteen countries represented
War reporting, popular and visual cultures, intelligence operations and the media, media as instruments of war, and media ethics in the coverage of conflict will be explored at a scholarly conference on campus
April 19-20. Participants are coming from Australia, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Zimbabwe.
Sponsored by the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication, the conference also will mark the launch of a journal, Media, War and Conflict. The publication was developed to provide a scholarly forum to “map the shifting arena of war, conflict and terrorism in an intensively and extensively mediated age.” Published by Sage, the journal is coedited by Philip Seib, Lucius W. Nieman Professor of Journalism.
