What alumni Achieve

More than we think — They strive for the heights and reach them.

Marquette's Alumni Awards Recipients excel in business, entrepreneurship, community leadership and medicine.

One has risen to the top at Morningstar and another found his place on the peaks of the Colorado Rockies, where he established a camp for at-risk teens. Alumnus of the Year William Diederich, Jour ’51, led the charge in transforming communication media and co-founding The Weather Channel.

This year’s Alumni Awards recipients have wonderful stories to share. Read them all in this story.

Shortly after being informed of his selection as Alumnus of the Year, William Diederich died. The university mourned the passing of the graduate who married coed Mary Klein Diederich, Arts ’52, after they met at a dance and fell in love. Just last year, the Diederichs gave $28 million to establish the College of Communication as a top institution for educating students in converging media.
