Faculty Focus

An independent thinker

Dr. William R. Wiener will work to build support for faculty research and enhance interdisciplinary relationships between graduate and professional programs.

Grad School dean focuses on research initiatives

The new vice provost for research and dean of the Graduate School has focused his own research on helping people with disabilities to become as independent as possible. Dr. William R. Wiener, who joined Marquette last summer, has particular interest in advancing the resources available to help people with mental retardation, visual impairments, hearing impairments and those who use wheelchairs.

In his new post, Wiener will work to build support for faculty research and enhance interdisciplinary relationships between graduate and professional programs. He will lead the offices of Research and Sponsored Programs and Research Compliance, and work with the deans and university administration to develop a vision for the future of research and graduate education at Marquette.

On top of that, he will continue his own research. Currently, Wiener is co-writing and editing a textbook for the American Foundation for the Blind among other things.
