1961

Mary “Mel” (Lytle) Kelly, Jour ’61, ran for re-election as mayor in Carrabelle, Fla.

Dr. Donna Skovira Foran, Jour ’61, Grad ’83, Grad ’94, was awarded an Excellence in Teaching Award by Mount Mary College in Milwaukee for innovative teaching, enthusiasm and dedication to her profession and to her students.

1962

James E. Peck, Arts ’62, was invested into the Circle of Knights of the Golden Quill at the Milwaukee Press Club’s annual meeting. Investiture is the highest honor the Press Club bestows journalists. He is an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist whose successful television career spans 40 years. He currently hosts the Milwaukee Public Television show I Remember Milwaukee and WTMJ-AM radio’s Wisconsin’s Weekend Morning News.

1965

Peter K. Connolly, Jour ’65, published his second novel, When Shadows Fell at Notre Dame. His first novel, The Last Slider, was published in 2004.

1966

Daniel J. Heerey, Bus Ad ’66, was named president of the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants Board of Directors.

1968

Reunion Year

Michael F. Hupy, Arts ’68, Law ’72, was accepted as a member of the Multi-million Dollar Advocates Forum. To be accepted, attorneys must act as principal counsel in at least one case that resulted in a multi-million dollar verdict, award or settlement. He is president of Hupy and Abraham SC in Milwaukee.

1969

Michael J. Gonring, III, Jour ’69, Law ’82, was named Lawyer of the Year by the Milwaukee Bar Association. He works for Quarles & Brady LLP and lives in Whitefish Bay, Wis.

Dr. Marilyn (Waldock) Leon, Nurs ’69, was promoted to dean of the Metropolitan State University College of Nursing and Health Sciences in St. Paul, Minn.

Dr. John W. Vitz, Dent ’69, composed the major musical score for symphony orchestra and grand chorus, A Mass for Peace in the Third Millennium. He spent more than five years writing original music with contemporary harmonies for the Tridentine Mass. It was performed by the Oakland (Calif.) East Bay Symphony and earned audience ovations and positive reviews. Music has been a lifelong avocation for Vitz, who has been in dental practice for 35 years.
