The 2013-14 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) was revised to make the form easier to complete and to improve the accuracy of the information provided on the form. These changes may impact when and how your 2012 federal tax returns are filed and how the 2013-14 FAFSA is completed.
If you meet the criteria listed for the Verification Worksheet for Independent Students
and you are selected for Verification, Marquette University is required to confirm your tax information. We are no longer able to accept Federal Tax Returns (including 2012 IRS
Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ) for this requirement. Instead, students can
use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool on the FAFSA by selecting Link to IRS to automatically transfer tax
information to the FAFSA and to the University. If you are not eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, you must submit a signed copy of
your 2012 Federal IRS Tax Return Transcript. If you are not required to file a US or Puerto Rican Income Tax Return, you must submit a Student Statement of Non-Filing
.
If you are a married student who meets the criteria listed for the Verification Worksheet for Independent Students
and you are selected for Verification, Marquette University is required to confirm your spouse's tax information.
If your spouse is not eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, your spouse must submit a signed copy of
his/her 2012 Federal IRS Tax Return Transcript. If your spouse is not required to file a US or Puerto Rican Income Tax Return, your spouse must submit a Spouse Statement of Non-Filing
.
