Eligibility Criteria

1. Resident of Wisconsin, as determined by Higher Education Aids Board
2. Enrolled as an undergraduate student in a participating UW, Wisconsin Technical College, or private, non-profit post secondary institution in the state
3. Enrolled at least half-time in a degree or certificate program leading to a nursing license (RN or LPN)
4. Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
5. Must demonstrate financial need
6. Agree to practice as a licensed nurse in Wisconsin for the term of the forgiveness period

Amounts & Selection Process

Awards range from $250 up to $3,000 per academic year with the total borrowed not to exceed $15,000. Marquette selects eligible students and determines each student's loan amount.

Terms

For the 2013-2014 academic year, the interest rate will be a fixed rate of 5%. If the student practices nursing full-time in the State of Wisconsin, 25% of the loan will be forgiven in the first year and 25% in the second year. The maximum forgivable amount is 50% of the amount borrowed.

Application Process

1. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
2. Eligible students will be notified by email to complete the application materials as well as a Self-Certification Form. All documents must be signed and returned by the student.
3. Students who have accepted the Wisconsin Nursing Student Loan on CheckMarq will receive an email stating that an electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN) is available to sign.

Renewal Process

Award is renewed only if the student completes all necessary forms, continues to meet eligibility requirements, and funds are available at the time that the application is completed.
